Playing With Photo Elements

Today is rainy and wintry looking... but yesterday was nice, a bit overcast, but great for practicing agility and taking photos...no harsh winter sun shadows.

One of our club members, Heather, was chosen to judge at the 2010 AKC Agility Invitationals and she needed a good photo for their website. Naturally, she wanted her dogs in there, too!

So we met at the agility field and took photos.... it took loads of photos as getting 4 dogs to cooperate isn't easy. They wander off, they fall on their backs and stick their feet in the air, they lick their noses, shut their eyes, they lick each other and the owner and they attempt to jump off where you want them and the owner is stretched to the max!

Anyway, we did get one we could live with, I put in on the JustPhotos blog if you want a look.

Then we practiced with our dogs. I took this photo of Poet, Heather's oldest dog, who is now deaf, but still likes to come out and run through the tunnels. He was standing so pretty, just waiting for his turn.

I think I had the camera set on area and instead of focusing on the dog, the background was sharper and the dog was a bit fuzzy. I cropped it and was playing with various filters in PhotoElements. I took out the background and cloned in the grass, then tried again.

The result was this image using the watercolor filter. I like the effect!
