Coast Cruising

Yesterday, when Lisa and I decided we'd go on a photo adventure to Ocean Springs, MS, we totally forgot this was the "Cruising The Coast" event that starts there! It's the largest antique car get together around and has all the trappings that come with it....vendors, sightseers, traffic jams up the wazoo.

Oh, well, we're just gonna go down to the beach and marsh and look for birds....and so we did. First stop was right under the bridge where there is a nice little park area with flowers and lovely tile murals.

Individually set, they curve like waves with their backs to the bridge.

Seems the jalopies like that route, too. We no sooner got there when here comes a line of them.

The little park had cruisers of it's own in the form of butterflies..
...
....and skippers.

A Buckeye...

A Gulf Fritillary..
So along with the old cars, the butterflies and friends...

...the pelicans were cruising by and stopping to fish occasionally.

Super cool car.

Pelicans matched the cruisin' cars with their cool sail byes....

Awesome vehicle..

A pelican hovers before dropping head first after a fish.

Splash down!
Coming back around for another go..

Gotcha!
A bit of a rest..

...then taking off again..

...fishing must have been really good today.

We got out of the traffic and went across the harbor, enjoying the shrimp boats and others and over to the Gulf Islands National Seashore camp ground and visitors center.

Being dog people, we were drawn to this photo. An Irish Wolfhound the photo says...but looks like a Scottish Deerhound doesn't it?

Turns out that back during WWII, Cat Island, just off the Biloxi shore, was used to train dogs as scouts! You learn something new everyday!

We took a tour of the campgrounds and crossed this serene little bayou with it's wildflowers and..

...a lone heron. It was a beautiful day and a great tour. Thanks Lisa, for driving...I'd still be lost and looking for the beach!
