Sunday Outing

Turned out to be a super Sunday, so Darlene and I rode down to the island (Dauphin Isle) to play with her new camera.

Darlene's amarillos were blooming.

The island was hopping! There were thousands of motorcycles coming, going, parked - everywhere! Turns out the Dauphin Isle school was having a motorcycle show. So many people you couldn't even get into the beach parking next door.

So we went down to Fort Gaines....crowed there, too, everyone was out enjoying the sun, sand and fishing, too. This gull had just caught a piece of bread tossed by one beachgoer.

We walked down the boardwalk at the Estuarium to see if we could find some butterflies or birds. Got this cute little fella.

Wildflowers around Ft Gaines.

Still standing guard at the mouth of the bay.... a cannon points across to Fort Gaines' sister fort, Ft Morgan on the other side of the bay. "Damned the torpedoes. Full speed ahead!" - Battle of Mobile Bay.(Civil War)

Watch it, buddy! This poor cormorant in the fore ground must think that boat was cutting it close! Sand Island Lighthouse in the distance.

Sand Island lighthouse, still standing, but lost it's island!

The ferry from Dauphin Isle to Ft Morgan going out.

Biking and boating.... in a pedal powered kayak...looks like fun.

We decided to go to Fowl River to the restaurant there. We could sit out on the deck and watch the boats go by..... looks like a family outing and the dog's having a ball.

Three guys from one of the docked boats came with their little dog. We felt right at home.
