Today, I ventured out to the causeway to meet two dear friends from Baldwin county. I had to go by a supply store downtown, so instead of the intrastate, I took an historical route.

Springhill Avenue use to be covered almost entirely by a majestic live oak canopy, but now that exists only in a few sections. Still lovely though...

Turning off Springhill onto the Water Street bypass, I managed this photo of the old US Marine Hospital, which is on the National Register of Historical Places. It's Greek Revival style and was completed in 1842 and operated under the Marine Hospital Service until 1952. Both Confederate and Union troops were treated there. It's now a police station for the city of Mobile.

At the junction where the bypass joins Water Street proper, I got this great shot of the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio building. This Mission Revival style building was built in 1905 and was headquarters for the GM&O Railroad. It's recently undergone a facelift and houses many business offices now. It's also on the National Register of Historical Places.

Took this photo of the RSA Tower and the top of the Marriot while driving! I'm surprised it come out.

The Mobile Convention Center backs up to the river and is next to Riverside Park. Yes, that's a cruise ship on the far right..the terminal is just past the park.

Fishermen look tiny beside the USS Alabama, moored at Battleship Park on the Causeway.

Austil ship builders is the long white building. It's on one side of the Mobile River and the tall skyline of Mobile, on the other.

We all live in a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine..... Couldn't resist taking a photo of this mini-sub outside The Original Oyster House's new digs.

If you are on a boat, you see this view of the OOH's when you tie up at their...

....dock on the bay....Sittin' on the dock of the bay...wastin' time.....Love them old tunes!

No birds were out and about much...turns out several long legged waders were hold up in this tree behind Ed's Seafood Shack. Can you see three of them?

Only a few lone bog plants were blooming...

Two waterbirds came swooping by...don't know what kind they were, they were in a big hurry to get somewhere!
