Red-spotted Purple Butterfly

This butterfly is a new one to me. I thought , at first, it was a Spice Bush Swallowtail, but when I looked it up at Butterfly I found out I was wrong. This lovely guy or gal, was resting on an oak leaf at about dusk yesterday.

It would never fully open it's wings, but the underside of the wings was even more spectacular than the top!

I'm becoming a regular butterfly aficionado!
